How does BOTOX® work?
Small quantities are injected into facial muscles. BOTOX® blocks the nerve impulses to the muscle, causing small areas to be temporarily paralyzed. Muscles relax, and overlying skin becomes smoother.
Does it hurt?
Our staff is exceptionally well trained to provide for your comfort. Minimal, temporary discomfort is associated with the injections, often described as "mildly stinging."
Will I have to miss work?
Treatment only takes a few minutes to administer. Most people are able to return to work immediately and resume full activities the same day.
When will I see results and how long does it last?
BOTOX® begins to take effect within 3-5 days. Optimal effects will be seen within 1 to 2 weeks, with results lasting 3 to 6 months. BOTOX® will gradually lose its potency, eventually restoring the muscle to its original condition. When frown lines recur, BOTOX® may be reapplied to maintain the desired result.
Who should not have BOTOX?
BOTOX® injections are not suitable while breast-feeding, or for expecting mothers. People with a history of Lyme disease, or those who regularly eat sushi and/or deep sea fish should consult with a physician. Side effects can include, but are not limited to: temporary drooping of the eyelids, temporary numbness, a small amount of temporary bruising at the injection site, and headaches.
Do's and Don'ts
After treatment, remain upright for 3 to 4 hours. Avoid touching or massaging the area for up to 12 hours, as this may cause more diffused spread of the treatment. Walking, standing or sitting upright is permitted. Refrain from reclining or strenuous activity for the next 4 hours.
After BOTOX® Injections
Mild redness and stinging around the injection area is temporary and should clear within a few hours. You should see noticeable results within 3 to 5 days, and optimal effects within 1 to 2 weeks of treatment. BOTOX® lasts 3 to 6 months, gradually losing effectiveness. At the end of this period, your skin returns to its original state. Maintaining a more youthful appearance is simple with repeat injections.
