September 1st 2010, I received the first implantation of my Full Focus lens in my left eye. The surgery was fast and flawless. Within 24 hours after surgery I was able to see clear without glasses, the first time in many years...The time went by quickly and it was time for the right eye...Both eyes were seeing as clear as can be expected...Reading was tough at first but improved with practice and healing.
The real test came when I returned to work. I am a career firefighter and my job has all kinds of vision requirements. At work one of the first things I do every morning is to verify my mobile data terminal is updated and running properly...The screen is about 10 inches and I was able to read it without reading glasses. This was amazing. The street names and address are really small on the congested maps. When responding to alarms the ability to read street signs and addresses on the homes was a first in over 15 years without glasses. The real test came when I removed the installed glasses from my air mask and was able to see in a fire, as well as you can see in smoke and darkness. There is nothing more comforting than having my peripheral vision in a fire not being restricted to straight on vision with glasses.
...the Full Focus implants have made doing my job safer, for me and the firefighters I work with. Being 53 years old the standard cataract lenses were not acceptable. The extra money for Full Focus Vision was well spent. I would do it again. It has been 8 months since the surgery and I find my close up reading abilities keep improving.
