Discover Vision Centers Announces New Electronic Initiative

Patients will soon be able to complete forms, make co-payments online, check-in at lobby kiosks

INDEPENDENCE, MO (April 10, 2007) – A local ophthalmic group is taking greater strides to ensure their practice is patient and user friendly. One click at www.discovervision.com is all it takes to make non-urgent appointments online and fill out new patient information forms. Soon, patients will even be able to pay insurance deductibles and co-payments online.

Patients who request appointments online can select the office location, ideal date and time, and the type of appointment they need – routine exam, medical exam, or free LASIK evaluation. Patient coordinators from Discover Vision call by the end of the business day to confirm the details.

“We understand how busy our patients are,” said Jim Denning, CEO of Discover Vision Centers. “We want to make it as quick and easy as possible for them to schedule appointments, make payments, and complete their patient forms through our website.”

Denning also noted that many Discover Vision Centers’ patients prefer to make their non-emergency eye appointments online.

“Online scheduling is a trend that is rapidly developing in all areas of health care,” said Denning. “As patients become more responsible for paying a larger portion of their health care expenses, they expect their health care providers to provide consumer-oriented services similar to bank ATMs, Amazon.com purchases and airline reservations,” he added.

In addition to online expediency, later this year patients will benefit from the convenience of check-in kiosks and electronic clipboards located in the eye center’s waiting rooms. The new devices are an extra option for those who wish to speed up what can sometimes become a lengthy check-in process.

If you are fearful of being greeted by computers rather than friendly faces at your next eye exam, don’t be. Discover Vision’s front office staff isn’t going anywhere. As always, they will be available for regular check-in, as well as assisting users with the electronic process.

“We’re not replacing people with computers; we are simply meeting and anticipating patient needs.” said Denning. “We value our employees as much as our customers, because we know that they are the backbone of our operation.”

Discover Vision Centers is one of the nation’s largest eye-care centers and has been providing patients in the Kansas City area the latest advances in vision correction for more than 30 years. The company has eight eye center locations, three LASIK refractive surgery centers and three ambulatory surgery centers.
