Cataracts are extremely common and a natural part of the aging process. Cataracts occur when the lens in your eye becomes cloudy from natural proteins that build up over time.
The result is blurred vision. The good news is that Cataract surgery is considered one of the safest surgical procedures in the US.
If your vision is getting cloudy, if you are losing your color perception, if you are having trouble reading or driving at night, you may be developing cataracts. The natural lens inside the eye is normally transparent in our youth. As we age, our clear lenses inevitably become cloudy, resulting in the formation of a cataract. Cataracts are a normal part of the aging process and can develop slowly. However, as the cataract matures, the cloudiness increases, resulting in significant loss of sight and even blindness. We can help at Discover Vision Centers.
Take the Cataract Self-TestThe first step in determining your candidacy for any procedure is to schedule a consultation and experience our comprehensive eye exam. This is the most complete eye exam available today and includes a consultation with one of our expert eye surgeons. Utilizing advanced diagnostic technology, our surgeons will not only evaluate your candidacy for a procedure but will also assess the overall health of your eyes and make recommendations for your specific visual needs.

Selecting the right type of cataract surgery and implant for your eye is very important for your visual outcome. Special eye measurements will provide the data necessary for your surgeon to determine the implant power. Our cataract surgeons will personally meet with you to discuss what lens would work best for your eye. Depending on eye history and current medical condition, we may have a unique lens suggestion.
Lasers can be used for part of modern cataract surgery. A femtosecond laser is used to create the incisions for the surgeon to enter the eye and remove the cataract. This same sophisticated laser technology also helps complete the next two steps of the cataract procedure. It helps to open the lens capsule and to soften the crystalline lens for removal.
