John Doane, MD, has passed a milestone very few surgeons in the country have reached.
RxSight has formally recognized Dr. Doane for completing over 3,000 Light Adjustable Lens procedures, making him one of the most experienced LAL surgeons in the United States.
Discover Vision Centers has been part of the LAL story since 2008, when Dr. Doane joined the original FDA investigator team that helped bring this technology to American patients. That depth of experience is what a Discover Vision LAL consultation gives you, which is a surgeon who helped pioneer this technology.

"As a refractive surgeon, I specialize in helping people see the world in the best way possible. I've performed thousands of laser and lens-based vision correction procedures, but that feeling never gets old. Clear sight is more than a clinical outcome. It's freedom, confidence, and a meaningful change to a person's everyday life."
- John Doane, MD
The RxSight Light Adjustable Lens is the most advanced IOL available in the United States today, offering a glare-free, halo-free solution for cataracts, nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism — the world's first lens implant that can be customized to your eye after surgery.
The LAL implant is made from a special photosensitive material. Its polymers can move and change position within the lens whenever the implant is exposed to UV light from the Light Delivery Device (LDD). As those polymers shift, the lens's light-bending power changes with them, adjusting the eye's refractive error so light focuses more precisely on the retina.
Once your eye has fully healed, ultraviolet light sessions take place right in your surgeon's office. Most patients need three to five sessions, including two final "lock-in" treatments that stabilize the prescription for good. Each session takes about 30 to 120 seconds.
In FDA trial data, the Light Adjustable Lens outperformed standard IOLs at every level of visual acuity tested.
Why Patients Choose the Light Adjustable Lens

The Light Adjustable Lens is approved for use during cataract surgery and for refractive lens replacement. Potential candidates for the Light Adjustable Lens include patients who:
The best way to know for sure is a conversation with your surgeon about your lifestyle, your current vision, and what you want your outcome to look like.
Schedule a ConsultationCataracts cloud the eye's natural lens as part of normal aging. LAL surgery replaces that clouded lens while addressing other refractive issues at the same time, tailoring the outcome to your eyes.
LAL's light-adjustment process allows for precise correction calibrated to your specific degree of myopia, for exceptional distance vision.
LAL lets your surgeon fine-tune the lens to your lifestyle and visual needs, so you can see clearly at every distance.
LAL can significantly reduce or eliminate corneal astigmatism of at least 0.75 diopters, improving vision at all distances with a precise, tailored approach.
Presbyopia affects most people's near vision starting around age 40. LAL adjusts the lens to your eyes' changing needs, restoring your ability to focus up close without giving up distance vision.

He was able to offer a solution of an LAL lens replacement to accommodate my eye’s intolerance of a lens that was causing halos, rings and glare. I am grateful to him. The fact that he conducted a clinical trial on the LAL lens, recently FDA-approved, gave me the confidence to move forward with this choice. Because I am not from the Kansas City area, he made sure my surgeries were scheduled to offer me the best available opportunities for actual surgeries and follow-up appointments. I am grateful to him because of his expertise and willingness to address my issues in a respectful, competent manner. I have only the highest respect for him and his staff!”

Generally, they are more expensive than standard intraocular lenses, but Discover Vision offers a variety of payment options.CareCredit is a healthcare credit card financing option, subject to credit approval. Yes, once your surgeon clears you, though vision may shift slightly between sessions.
The Light Adjustable Lens can correct astigmatism, offering precise vision enhancement post-cataract surgery.
Most patients need between three and five light treatments to reach the desired postoperative prescription. We will work with you to determine how many light treatments are needed to achieve your vision goals.
If you don’t wear protective eyewear when outside immediately following refractive surgery until your final light treatment, the prescription of your light-adjustable lenses may be altered by UV light from the sun. This could affect the fine-tuning of your prescription and negatively impact your LAL results.
The Light Adjustable Lenses are permanent implants, designed to last a lifetime after their adjustments are finalized.
