Laser Surgeries We Provide at Discover Vision Center in Independence, MO

LASIK

LASIK is a type of laser vision correction surgery used to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. If you are located in Jackson County, having LASIK eye surgery in Independence, MO may be our most convenient location for your treatment. At this location, LASIK is performed by Dr. John Doane.

Farsightedness

PRK

PRK is an acronym for Photorefractive Keratectomy. Like LASIK, PRK is also used to treat myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. It is recommended as an alternative to LASIK for patients who have thinner corneas or for those who experience dry eye. At one time, PRK was also the recommended laser vision correction procedure for active duty military. Today, LASIK and SMILE are also acceptable procedures for military personnel; however, depending on your position and lifestyle, it is best to work with your eye doctor to determine which procedure is right for you.

SMILE

SMILE Vision Correction is the latest advancement in laser vision correction and refractive procedure options. However, being “the latest” treatment does not mean it is new to our team. In fact, Discover Vision was one of only five medical practices in the country involved in the research and development of SMILE eye surgery. Dr. John Doane also trains other eye surgeons in the U.S. and abroad on this procedure.

Light Adjustable Lens (LAL)

Light Adjustable Lens, or LAL, is the first and only lens that can be adjusted to your lifestyle after surgery. Until now, surgeons relied on the accuracy of pre-surgery measurements to determine a patient’s postoperative prescription power. However, with the LAL, a your vision can be adjusted after surgery. This revolutionary breakthrough gives your eyes time to heal while allowing you to test drive your vision before locking in the prescription of your lens. LAL is performed for two primary groups: those who are 40+ and suffer from presbyopia and those who are 60+ who have been diagnosed with cataracts

Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE)

Refractive Lens Exchange, or RLE, is a type of vision correction procedure that is an alternative to LASIK or SMILE. It may be recommended for those who are 40+ suffering from presbyopia or for those who are diagnosed with an early cataract. RLE involves removing the natural lens in your eye and replacing it with an intraocular lens or an IOL to minimize your dependence on contact lenses and glasses.

Type of Cataract Surgery Surgeon Experience

In addition to refractive procedures, Discover Vision Eye Surgery Center also provides, but is not limited to, the following surgical services:

Full Focus Vision Correction
